Touring el Viejo San Juan, Puerto RIco 1
The stories about Peurto Rico on this blog are not meant to offend anyone. They are simply just memories made by a college student who was invited to spend some time within the family. We recognize that the Island of Puerto Rico was never left the same after it met Hurricane Maria and the memories made before the incident are only meant to keep its culture and spirit alive in this time of tragedy as we wait for the world to heal. We all want to reminisce about our travel experiences and hopefully spending some time remembering will liven our spirits to see better days abroad ahead.
In Spring Break of 2016, Caro Rose's aunt took her to visit el Viejo San Juan, a historic part of the San Juan area to eat finger
foods on the street and visit the bird park nearby. While they were out,
Rose recalled that a family friend from back home in Florida wanted a
picture of the residence where he was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. So
while we searched the streets for the address, Caro Rose art captured the slim
streets that ran parallel to each other. In this particular painting, she liked
how the street disappeared into the horizon making one’s eye wonder what is
left on the end of the road. One of the most challenging parts of this panting
for her was mixing colors at the horizon to make the cars look as if they are
disappearing at the end.
"For me the hardest part of making this painting was trying to blend out the colors into the horizon," says Rose. "I didn't want to use black or grey straight from the tube so all of the colors are mixed on their own."
However, the most fun part of making this piece for her was recalling the story of spending time with her dear aunt.
